Chapter 4 - THE CAMERA Twenty minutes later, police officers arrived.

The mansion that had once been silent filled with radios, footsteps and questions.
One officer examined Clara.
Another spoke privately with Mark.
“Does this house have surveillance?”
Mark nodded.
“I installed cameras recently.”
“Inside?”
“Some areas.”
“Do you have access?”
Mark pulled out his phone.
His hands were shaking.
He opened the security application.
The footage appeared.
Timestamp.
2:17 p.m.
Clara stood near the railing.
Victoria stood behind her.
Mark watched.
Elena watched.
The officer watched.
Nobody spoke.
Then it happened.
Victoria's hand moved.
A short, unmistakable push.
Clara stumbled.
Elena ran.
Mark stopped breathing.
He watched his daughter fall.
Watched Elena throw herself across the floor.
Watched the woman he had married nearly destroy their child.
He replayed it.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
“That's enough,” the officer said quietly.
Mark didn't answer.
His eyes were wet.
“I wasn't here.”
The officer looked at him.
“You couldn't have known.”
Mark shook his head.
“I should have been.”
Upstairs, Victoria locked herself inside the master bedroom.
When police officers asked her to come downstairs, she refused.
Then the truth became even clearer.
She had not merely made a mistake.
May you like
She had tried to cover it.
And now the camera had taken away her last defense.
