Chapter 7 - Dawn of the PredatorThe first rays of pale morning light broke over the manicured hedges of the Harrington Estate, casting long, dramatic shadows across the limestone facade. Inside the grand dining hall, the atmosphere was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Victoria Harrington sat at the head of the mahogany breakfast table, wearing a high-collared Chanel silk blouse designed to partially hide the faint, reddish swelling still lingering on her left cheek. Across from her sat Marcus Vance—a tall, impeccably groomed man in a bespoke charcoal suit, sipping his espresso with absolute, unbothered arrogance.

The heavy oak doors swung open.

Adrian walked in, his stride calm, deliberate, and utterly dominating. But what made Victoria and Marcus freeze mid-breath wasn't Adrian.

It was the woman walking two paces behind him.

Isabella Moore had officially shed the black-and-white uniform of a housemaid. She wore a sharp, charcoal-grey tailored pantsuit, her dark hair pulled back into a sleek, professional chignon, and a silver-rimmed tablet tucked neatly under her arm. She carried herself with an erect, unshakable posture that instantly commanded the room.

Victoria dropped her silver fork against her porcelain plate with a sharp clatter.

"Are you completely insane, Adrian?!" Victoria shrieked, standing up so fast her chair screeched loudly against the parquet flooring. "You brought a servant into the family dining room? Dressed like that? Have you lost every shred of aristocratic dignity?"

Marcus Vance calmly set down his espresso cup, dabbing his mouth with a linen napkin. He offered Adrian a patronizing, lawyerly smile.

"Now, Adrian, Victoria is right," Marcus said smoothly, leaning back in his chair. "Family breakfast is a private affair. One can't simply elevate floor staff to executive status overnight without triggering HR compliance reviews—not to mention the sheer social impropriety of it."

Adrian didn't even look at Victoria or Marcus. He walked straight to the head of the table, pulled out his chair, and remained standing, resting both hands on the polished wood.

"Marcus," Adrian said softly, his voice carrying an icy calm. "Tell me about file cluster 88-Delta."

Marcus’s polite smile faltered for a fraction of a second—so fast that ninety-nine people out of a hundred would have missed it. But Isabella, standing quietly behind Adrian, caught the micro-expression instantly.

"I... I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about, Adrian," Marcus replied smoothly, though a tiny bead of sweat appeared near his hairline. "Corporate litigation files aren't really my specialty during breakfast."

"Is that right?" Adrian tilted his head. He gestured slightly with his hand.

Isabella stepped forward, tapping the screen of her silver-rimmed tablet. With a swift motion, she cast a high-definition digital diagnostic onto the massive, concealed smart-glass wall at the end of the dining room.

Instantly, the wall lit up with glowing lines of code, IP routing logs, and a timestamped video confirmation showing Marcus’s private terminal executing a server-wipe script at 8:42 PM the previous night.

Marcus’s face drained of color, his lawyerly composure shattering like cheap glass.

"That... that's fabricated," Marcus stammered, standing up abruptly. "Anyone with root access could spoof an IP address! This is inadmissible—"

"This isn't a courtroom, Marcus," Adrian interrupted, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet register. "This is my house. And that is a cryptographic signature tied directly to your personal corporate login."

Adrian finally looked up, his dark eyes locking onto Victoria, who was now trembling with pure, unadulterated panic.

"You wanted to know why I promoted her, Victoria?" Adrian asked, his gaze never wavering. "Because in less than twelve hours, she found what your cousin spent six months trying to hide. And this," he gestured to the glowing wall of data, "is just chapter one."
