Chapter 14 - The TrapThey followed Victor to an abandoned industrial warehouse.

Julian entered alone.
Evelyn wanted to follow.
Reed stopped her.
"Wait."
Inside, Julian heard Toby crying.
"Dad!"
He ran forward.
Victor stepped from the shadows.
Toby stood beside him.
"Let him go."
Victor smiled.
"You've spent your entire life believing your father was a hero."
Julian stared at him.
"He wasn't."
"No."
Victor shook his head.
"He was worse."
He tossed a file onto the floor.
Julian opened it.
Inside were photographs of his father meeting Victor.
Money transfers.
Names.
Dates.
Evidence of everything.
Julian looked sick.
"What do you want?"
"The ledger."
"I don't have it."
Victor smiled.
"You do."
He pointed toward Julian's chest.
"Your father hid it where nobody would search."
Julian realized the truth.
The ledger wasn't a book.
It was information.
Encoded in his father's old watch.
Julian slowly removed it.
Victor stepped forward.
Then Evelyn entered.
Victor turned.
A gunshot rang out.
Everyone froze.
But the bullet hadn't come from Victor.
Cassandra stood in the doorway.
Blood ran down her shoulder.
She had been shot.
She whispered:
May you like
"Run."
Then the warehouse exploded into chaos.
