Chapter 5 - The Man in the Black SUVThe hospital parking garage was almost empty.
Julian walked beside Evelyn's wheelchair.
Toby held his father's hand.
A black SUV sat across the garage.
Engine running.
Julian stopped.
The vehicle's headlights switched on.
Evelyn's face went white.
"That's him."
Julian immediately moved in front of her.
The SUV accelerated.
Julian shoved Evelyn's wheelchair behind a concrete pillar.
The SUV slammed into the barrier.
Metal screamed.
The driver's door opened.
A tall man stepped out.
Black coat.
Black gloves.
Face hidden beneath a baseball cap.
Julian charged.
The man smiled.
Then he threw something onto the ground.
A photograph.
Julian stopped.
He picked it up.
It showed Toby sleeping in his hospital bed.
Taken only minutes earlier.
Julian's blood turned cold.
The man backed toward the SUV.
"Tell Victor I'm done hiding."
Julian shouted:
"Who the hell is Victor?"
The man smiled.
"You really don't know?"
The SUV disappeared up the ramp.
Julian looked at Evelyn.
She was shaking.
"Who is Victor?"
She closed her eyes.
"I don't know."
Julian stared at her.
"Evelyn."
She opened her eyes.
"I swear."
Then Toby whispered:
"Dad?"
Julian turned.
Toby was staring at the photograph.
"That's the man from Grandma's house."
Julian froze.
"Grandma?"

Toby nodded.
"He came when Mommy disappeared."
