Chapter 10 - THE LAKE HOUSE The lake house stood in complete darkness.
One guard was unconscious near the gate.
The nursery was empty.
Then the baby monitor came alive.
Serena's voice filled the room.
“Victor.”
He froze.
“Bring me the original trust.”
“Where is my son?”
“At the boathouse.”
Lily stepped forward.
“I'm coming.”
Victor shook his head.
“No.”
“She trusts my voice.”
He looked at Lily.
Every instinct told him to keep her away.
But he knew Lily was right.
They reached the lake.
Serena stood on the ice holding Ethan.
The frozen surface groaned beneath their feet.
“Stay back.”
Victor stopped.
“Give me my son.”
“Give me the trust.”
Victor placed the folder on the dock.
Serena kicked it toward herself.
Lily moved slowly along the shoreline.
“Ethan knows my voice.”
Serena laughed.
“He should know mine.”
Lily shook her head.
“No.”
Her voice remained calm.
“He knows who keeps him safe.”
Ethan turned his head.
He recognized her.
Serena looked down.
A crack appeared beneath her feet.
Victor lunged.
Serena slipped.
Ethan fell.
Victor caught him inches above the water.
Lily grabbed Serena's arm.
For a second, Serena stared into the freezing lake.
“Why?”
Lily pulled her upward.
“Because I'm not you.”
Police reached the shore.
Serena was taken into custody.
Victor held Ethan against his chest.
The baby was crying.
But this time, he was crying safely.
Then Quinn's phone rang.
Her expression changed.
“Damien is burning the bank records.”
