Chapter 4 - THE TRUST Warren Price arrived before dawn.

He wore an immaculate charcoal suit.

His silver cufflinks reflected the gray morning light.

He looked exactly like the trustworthy lawyer he had pretended to be for decades.

Victor placed the forged trust on the desk.

“Explain.”

Warren studied the document.

“It appears someone forged your signature.”

“You recognize the language.”

“It's a standard amendment.”

Victor leaned forward.

“It's my signature.”

“Yes.”

“And I didn't sign it.”

Warren paused.

“You've been under enormous stress.”

Victor's eyes hardened.

“Are you suggesting I'm mentally unstable?”

“I'm suggesting that perhaps—”

“Choose your next sentence carefully.”

Detective Quinn entered.

“Mr. Price, we'd like to examine your records.”

Warren smiled.

“Of course.”

But Lily noticed something Victor didn't.

Warren's right hand was trembling.

At the hospital, another test came back.

Ethan had been sedated.

Not enough to kill him.

Enough to make him weak.

Enough to make him appear sick.

Enough to make Victor look negligent.

Lily suddenly remembered a bottle.

“The medicine.”

Police searched the nursery.

A bottle labeled infant fever medicine was found inside Ethan's diaper bag.

The liquid contained a powerful sedative.

Serena's fingerprints covered the cap.

She was arrested before sunrise.

As officers led her away, she turned toward Lily.

“You think you've won?”

Lily said nothing.

Serena smiled.

“Ask her what happened to Rosa.”

Lily's blood turned cold.

Rosa Delgado had been Ethan's first nanny.

She had vanished eight months earlier.

The family claimed she had moved to Arizona.

Lily had never believed it.

She remembered Rosa's final message.

Don't trust the medicine.

Now Lily understood.

May you like

Rosa had known.

And someone had tried to make sure she would never speak.
