Chapter 7 - THE CLINIC TRAP The investigation led to a private pediatric clinic hidden behind a polished family practice.

Bright walls.
Cartoon animals.
Soft music.
Nothing about the place suggested criminal activity.
Yet behind the medical doors were forged records, false prescriptions and fabricated diagnoses.
Ethan's name appeared again and again.
The records were designed to make him appear seriously ill.
More importantly, they were designed to make Victor appear careless.
The woman running the operation was Celia Price.
Warren's daughter.
She broke after three hours of questioning.
“Serena needed evidence.”
“Evidence of what?” Quinn asked.
“That Victor was an unfit father.”
Lily felt sick.
“They were going to hurt him until he looked sick enough for a judge to take him away.”
Celia nodded.
“Then the trust would pass to Serena.”
“And Warren?”
“He would manage it.”
“Damien?”
“He'd get paid.”
Victor walked outside.
The winter air cut across his face.
For years, he had believed his greatest threats were outside his home.
Rival organizations.
Enemies.
Politicians.
Criminals.
He had never imagined the real danger would come from people sitting at his dinner table.
Quinn found another clue.
The original trust was stored beneath Blackwood National Bank.
Three people had access.
Victor.
Warren.
August Montigue.
They arrived at the vault.
The door stood open.
Warren was unconscious on the floor.
The original trust was gone.
Taped to the wall was a wedding invitation.
Serena's name had been crossed out.
Across it, someone had written:
TONIGHT.
Victor stared.
His phone rang.
Damien.
“Come to the Grand Marlowe.”
May you like
“Why?”
“Because if you don't, Warren dies.”
