Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH Marco was investigated.

The burner phone had been planted.

The evidence led back to Celia Price.

Warren's daughter had escaped custody.

Her plan was simple:

Remove Marco.

Isolate Lily.

Take Ethan.

Lily moved Ethan into an old wine cellar beneath the house.

She locked the door.

Then she heard footsteps.

Celia entered the corridor carrying a syringe.

“Where is the child?”

Lily didn't answer.

The baby monitor suddenly played Ethan's recorded cry from another room.

Celia followed the sound.

Police surrounded her.

She dropped the syringe.

She surrendered.

Inside her bag was a photograph.

Amelia.

Victor's late wife.

On the back was the date of the crash that killed her.

Victor stared at the photograph.

“Where did you get this?”

Celia looked down.

“My father kept it.”

“Why?”

She began crying.

“Because Amelia found out.”

“Found out what?”

“Everything.”

Celia confessed that Warren had altered the maintenance report after Amelia's death.

The brakes had not failed.

Someone had tampered with them.

Victor's world seemed to tilt.

He asked the question he had feared.

“Who was with Amelia that night?”

Celia whispered:

“Serena.”

The woman Victor had planned to marry had been connected to his wife's death.

The conspiracy was no longer about Ethan.

It had started years earlier.

With Amelia.
