Vanessa filmed Lily explaining the painting.

The caption was simple:
Listen to the children Julian Thorne wants to displace.
Four hours.
Fifty thousand views.
The next morning:
Two hundred thousand.
Then national news.
People saw Lily's face.
They saw the mural.
They saw the neighborhood.

Donations began arriving.
Five dollars.

Twenty.
One hundred.
Thousands of people gave whatever they could.
Within forty-eight hours, the center had raised more than four hundred thousand dollars.
Vanessa stared at the counter.
"We did it."
Claire couldn't speak.
She looked at Lily.
Her daughter stood beside the mural.
Reporters surrounded her.
Claire finally whispered:
"She saved us."
Marcus smiled.
"No."
He looked at Lily.
"She reminded everyone why we're fighting."
The next morning, city officials announced that the zoning hearing would be moved to the largest auditorium in the city.
Hundreds of citizens planned to attend.
